Released
originally in 1987 this album, much maligned at the time of release is
long overdue a re-assessment. Roger was the first rock artist of his
generation to record an album in a contemporary techno style which many of
his fans felt was “selling out”. Produced by the legendary Dutch
production team The Bolland Brothers, Techno-Prisoners
is a polished Roger Chapman performance containing some of his best and
most exciting songs.
Over
15 years on Techno-Prisoners certainly sounds of its time,
but also sounds a hugely successful meeting of raw talent and polished
production.
Songs
such as Prisoner (still a live favourite) and Slap
Bang In The Middle are wonderful examples of the previous
statement.
The
5 bonus tracks are some of the original demo’s of the songs used
on Techno-Prisoners, using just Roger Chapman, Alvin Lee on
guitar and Tim Hinkley on keys the demo’s really make one marvel
at the new arrangements and musical vista offered by the Bolland
production team and should pave the way for many fans to reassess their
original thoughts on this release.
